Frequently asked questions about hypnotherapy
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes, with the only condition being that the person wants to be hypnotised. There are some states in which hypnosis should not be carried out, such as when under the influence of drugs or alcohol. [close]
What happens when I contact you?
We can discuss over the ‘phone or through email your reasons for considering hypnotherapy, whether it is solving a problem or enhancing an area of your life. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the process and then if you wish to make an appointment, we can find a convenient time. Then we can begin sessions and work towards achieving your dreams. [close]
What happens in the first session?
I will ask you about areas of interest such as relationships, work, and health so that I have a general overview of your life and can tailor the hypnotherapy to suit you as an individual. We will discuss the issues you wish to work on and what you want to achieve. Then I will gently guide you into a very relaxed state of hypnosis and we can begin to change your life in the way you want to. [close]
Does anyone ever stay in hypnosis and not come out of that state?
No, this simply could not happen because of the way your mind and body works – it’s a physical impossibility. Of course, you may enjoy the feelings of being so relaxed that you don’t want the session to end though! [close]
Can I be influenced to say or do things I don’t want to?
No, hypnosis does not work like that - and neither do I. You cannot be made to do or reveal anything you do not want to and you should feel reassured that I would not want that either. [close]
So hypnotherapy is not like the entertainment you see on the tv or in clubs?
If you mean acting like Elvis etc. then no, absolutely not. They are two very different uses of hypnosis and I only use hypnosis for therapy, not any other purpose. [close]
Are any tablets or drugs used? Are there any side effects?
No tablets or drugs are used at all, just the natural power of your subconscious mind. There are no unpleasant side effects from hypnosis and it is not addictive, which is why many people choose to use this particular method of feeling better. [close]
Will I remember everything?
Yes, you should recall what has happened in the session because of course you are not asleep or unconscious but awake and participating, just in a very relaxed way. We will generally discuss the sessions once you are out of the trance state, which is always very interesting. [close]
How many sessions will I need?
One of the main benefits of hypnotherapy is how effective it can be in a short space of time. Many issues such as stopping smoking or conquering interview and exam nerves will require only one or two sessions generally. Other issues may take a few more, but it is very unusual for it to be a long process. Many people find that they experience such benefits from hypnotherapy that they use it in a more ‘life coaching’ way and attend regularly to relax and reboot their energy and confidence for every day life.
